| The difference is clear |
 We share a vision
to restore democracy to Fylde, to avoid party politics, and to allow all councillors full involvement in all decisions affecting their electorate.
It might surprise you to know this does not happen in Fylde at present.
We are not a political party
we aim to reduce the influence that political parties have over local government with their block voting tactics and adherence to national party dogma rather than meeting the needs of local people.
We do not hold private caucus meetings
and we do not have enforced collective policies. We believe that all business should be openly debated in public with all councillors able to contribute and vote in accordance with their beliefs, without party pressure or threats.
We are totally opposed to the Cabinet system at Fylde
under which most decisions are made by a political cabinet of eight members which meets behind closed doors prior to meetings and does not allow any other Councillor to speak either at the private or public sessions. Fylde Independents intend to restore democracy at Fylde at the earliest possible opportunity with the restoration of the committee system under which all 51 members will have full involvement in all decisions.
We will change the way the scrutiny process operates
at Fylde. At present the ruling party controls which decisions should be scrutinised and it enjoys a majority on all the scrutiny committees. We intend to fully de politicise this process to provide the public with a fair and transparent system of reviewing Council decisions.
